Christina Justiz Roush (b. 1986, New York) is a sculptor and interdisciplinary artist whose practice investigates and creates transformation, archetypal symbolism, and the threshold between the mystical and profane. They studied visual arts and religious philosophy at Sarah Lawrence College, where they began to synthesize their creative work with an enduring engagement in esoteric traditions, including astrology, tarot, numerology, and alchemical texts.
Justiz embraces themes of sexuality, constraint, and tension as entry points to the sacred, resulting in contemporary ritual objects that merge personal mythology with collective resonance.
At the heart of Justiz's practice is a deep respect for process and structure. Each piece unfolds through a precise, layered sequence—casting in plaster, channeled drawing, painting, sealing with natural shellac, and final adornment with crystals and gemstones. This ritualized methodology becomes a vessel for intuitive creation, allowing the work to emerge through discipline, repetition, and intentionality.
Justiz first gained recognition through custom commissions, including pregnancy sculptures and family crests, and has exhibited in solo and group shows across the United States. Their work has appeared in Atmos Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, MTV Voices, and Hyperallergic, among others. They live and work in Ojai, California, with their husband, two children, and Jack Russell Terrier, Spot.
Justiz’ upcoming exhibition will open May 9, from 6-9pm at Eleventh Hour Art.
