Eleventh Hour Art is pleased to present DREAM ARCHIVES, a group exhibition featuring Katelyn Alain, Kyung Kim, Mayowa Nwadike, Carter Shocket, and Xiangjie Rebecca Wu. DREAM ARCHIVES will run from November 9 – December 24, and will include a Welcome Reception on Saturday, November 16th, from 4-7pm. 

The work in DREAM ARCHIVES explores what is revealed when we pull apart the linearity of time and allow for a mythology to emerge from both within and beyond ourselves. The five artists bend time, re-work rich histories from memory, render alternate selves born from imagined pasts, and bring forth a new mythology built from what has always been here.

Mayowa Nwadike’s paintings imagine his younger self immigrating to New York, a move he made only four years ago. Xiangjie Rebecca Wu paints her childhood in the Yangtze River village inspired from memory, an act made all the more potent by the village’s destruction into an economic harbor in 2010. Kyung Kim paints memories of bodily sensations she’s experienced while immersed in nature, in turn evoking new sensations within each viewer. Katelyn Alain’s masterwork, Time Was Spiralic Over Their Intent, captures a new mythology of girls traversing waters to enter new worlds with their inner power made visible. These girls come from the past, the present, and the future– they have always been here, and as they gaze upon you, mid-journey from this world to another, you are compelled to follow. Lastly, curator and artist Carter Shocket’s woven sculptures diagram time itself looping, folding over, and collapsing. His Trans Timeographies visualize a queer possibility of time where shared experience allows the past and present to touch, opening a portal for a future to join as well.
