KODAMA (Echo) : Forests cover 67% of Japan's landscape and are deeply revered in Shinto, with ancient trees believed to be inhabited by spirits called kodama. This belief has led to the view of forests as sacred. Forest scenes are commonly depicted on kimonos, often set against darker backgrounds and worn during the autumn and winter seasons.
