‘Mandala Mangrove’ is a punch needle work inspired by mangroves as a protective shield. Punch needling is a fluid hand motion that is repetitive and forgiving. Each punch of yarn forms a small orb of color in the woven fabric canvas. The orbs made from South American merino wool are the invocations, the prayers, the inhales and exhales. It's a similar process to my days in the Catholic church and upbringing in a Colombian family praying the rosary and the stillness I found in simple crystal beads. My punch needle is my new prayer tool, outpouring peace and belief in my work.
